ACCOMPANYING THE NEXT GENERATION

Foundation Workshop In NVC Focusing On Parenting

Saturday March 16th and Sunday March 17th 2019

Joining me to present this workshop is my friend and NVC Colleague Vicky Peirce.  Vicky has been living and sharing NVC for more than 15 years.  She trained directly with Marshall Rosenberg and has been a CNVC Assessor for candidates wishing to certify with The Centre For Nonviolence (CNVC).  Vicky is a parent and grandparent.  She introduced me to NVC 10 years ago and has supported me to cultivate a compassionate space within me which enables me to now share NVC myself.

Overview

This NVC Foundation Training has a particular focus on those who parent and caretake the next generation.

Some themes we will be exploring:-

  • If you were to write a Parenting Manifesto, what would it look like? What values and longings would be uppermost for you to cultivate?

  • What is a ‘good’ child?

  • What is it you want someone (of any age) to do and what do you want their motivation for doing it to be?

  • What is habitual and what is natural when it comes to connection with ourselves and other human beings. That is, through the lens of NVC, to discover the difference between contributing to others to make their life wonderful versus contributing to others to control how they behave. Together, let’s talk about what happens when we use extrinsic motivators. When we hold what people want or need and offer it on a contingent basis in order to control how they act – punishment and reward – ‘Do this and you’ll get that’.

  • What are we actually cultivating in our relationships and our community when using this method of ‘getting what we want’.

  • We will practice a language of resonance that ‘catches’ ourselves and others, of any age, when they are in pain and struggling, to cultivate compassion, supporting their experience and making ‘natural giving’ possible.

This 2 day NVC Foundation Workshop will help to make sense of and unpack these questions and provide a fertile ground to cultivate the kind of family/community you are longing for.
