Grief and Gratitude

Saturday 26th of January 2019

Overview:

"Where there is sorrow there is holy ground" Oscar Wilde

If this is so, then let this day be a sacred day.  Where we honour the aspect of our humanity that is about loss.  Loss of loved ones, loss of health, loss of work, loss of meaning or purpose or unfulfilled dreams and longings.  It might also be about grief and anguish for the plight of humanity and our planet.

It's a day in which we give grief a place in our community and apprentice ourselves to sorrow. I have been brought to my knees with recent losses and have experienced the agony and within that also the unfurling of a sense of my heart being broken open into gratitude and love.  It's not my job to tell you that this is so.  So that's why I am holding this day.  To open up the possibility that perhaps through the compassionate gifts of NVC and the warmth of the community we will build for the day,  we can approach this aspect of our humanity with tenderness and curiosity and allow our losses to be composted together.

As well as bringing the practices of Nonviolent Communication I also draw my inspiration from the work of Francis Weller's 'The Wild Edge Of Sorrow' where he presents The 5 Gates Of Grief.
