REHUMANISING OUR RELATIONSHIPS

Sunday 14th of July 2018

I had no idea how far removed we are as a race from our humanity until I was introduced to Nonviolent communication.  How dehumanised we are.

Our life energy which presents itself through our feelings and our longings has often been silenced through our culture and educational systems.  Our needs, within the context of Nonviolent Communication are not only our life source, needs are also the universal connective tissue that binds us to all living things.  The result for many of us is 'separation sickness', a sense that something is 'wrong' 'out of kilter' and we're not sure why.

Needs in our culture have been reduced to thoughts around 'neediness'. Needs and feelings have been 'othered', viewing and treating our own experience and that of others as alien.  What's the measure anyway - is there a normal measure for it...what is too much, what is too little, what is just right? Marshall Rosenberg discovered that dialogues about who needs what and how much and when are the key to peace on our planet. Even to the point that when he worked with communities who had taken lives in order to 'get what they needed' a dialogue around what everyone needed connected them peacefully again with strategies for peace that didn't include killing each other.  Exploring the fullness of our needs reminds us of our own beauty and innocence and connects us to the beauty and innocence in others and all living things.

So, what if there is a language that supports us to allow and to express the fullness of our life experience, one that doesn't dehumanise it or dehumanise others or judge ourselves and others as being 'right' or 'wrong'?

This workshop will support us to review the relationships in our lives and discover the power of vulnerability as the connective tissue that rehumanises them.    We will practice together this Nonviolent language when it comes to acknowledging ourselves, expressing ourselves, receiving others and supporting life.
